Explore Tacitous Next

See how knowledge moves through Tacitous Next.

Tacitous doesn’t simply store knowledge. It connects knowledge, people and expertise so that organisations can put what they know to work. Choose a capability to see the real screen behind it, or follow a piece of knowledge from first idea to reuse.

How it works

Everything starts with an expertise category

Discussions, Learnings, Knowledge Retention and Transfer records and other knowledge are linked to expertise categories, such as Finance, Legal or Fundraising. Each category has Designated Experts, who are notified about new discussions, Learnings and Knowledge Retention and Transfer records in their area so they can help.

Tenant administrators

Define categories and experts

Administrators set up the organisation’s expertise categories, assign Designated Experts to each one and choose whether experts receive expertise notifications.

Community managers

Tag the conversation

Every discussion topic is created under an expertise category, so the conversation is connected to the subject and the people who know it from the start.

Add topic form with a title, summary and a required expertise category

Designated Experts

The experts hear about it

When a discussion starts, a Learning is published or a Knowledge Retention and Transfer record is published for the organisation in their category, Designated Experts are notified so they can step in, steer and help. They only hear about what they can access, and can mute a category.

Everyone

It all connects

The category’s page on the Expertise Map brings together its experts, Learnings, other knowledge, communities and library resources.

Why it matters: Find the right expert or existing knowledge on a subject in one place, instead of asking around.

  • Relationships, Map and Constellation views of the same subject
  • Designated experts shown because of an explicit expertise assignment
  • Learnings, After Action Reviews, decisions, Peer Assists, ideas, library items and events grouped by category
  • Export a category as a semantic knowledge graph in JSON-LD, Turtle or N-Triples

Knowledge journeys

Follow knowledge from experience to reuse

Step through the workflows exactly as they run in the application, including who takes each step.

Lessons Learned and Best Practices

From an experience worth sharing to a reviewed, reusable Learning that keeps improving.

Step 1 of 4

Share a Learning

Any member

Choose Lesson Learned or Best Practice, tag an expertise category and record the description, background and recommendation. A checklist shows what is still needed to submit.

Promote a discussion to a Learning

A good answer in a community becomes a Lesson Learned or Best Practice that outlives the thread.

Step 1 of 4

A question in a community

Any community member

A member asks how to hand over supplier knowledge before a planner retires. Colleagues reply with what has worked for them.

Community discussion asking how to hand over supplier knowledge, with three replies from colleagues

Connecting people, expertise and knowledge

Every Learning, record, profile and community is tied to governed expertise categories, so one question leads to the people and knowledge behind it.

Step 1 of 4

Start from a person

Any member

Profiles show the expertise categories someone is designated in, their skills and the topics they are happy to be asked about.

Expertise relationships

How people, expertise and knowledge connect

Modelled on the Constellation in Tacitous Next. Each governed expertise category is sized by what is connected to it. Choose one to see its designated experts, Learnings, other knowledge, communities and library resources, then choose a person to trace every category they are designated in.

Structured Knowledge Management forms

A consistent structure for every kind of knowledge

  • Knowledge Retention and TransferA guided conversation that captures experience, practical judgement and advice before someone changes role or leaves.
  • After Action ReviewWhat a team intended, what happened and what it will do differently, so completed work informs the next.
  • Decision and RationaleWhy a significant decision was made, the alternatives considered and where it applies.
  • Innovation / IdeasShare an early idea for improvement. Members can rate published ideas to show interest.
  • Knowledge CaféThe insights, critical issues and closing questions from a facilitated Knowledge Café conversation.
  • Peer AssistAdvice from experienced colleagues before significant work, and what the requesting team decided to do.
  • Expert Practice NoteWhat to notice in a recurring situation, how to approach it, its limits and when to seek further advice.

Lessons Learned and Best Practices are captured as Learnings, with their own review and reuse workflow. See the Learning journey
